Every generation of women has lessons to teach, wisdom to share, and something to learn.

Hi. I'm Amanda Freeman, Huron Valley local, founder of Torch, and fierce cheerleader of girlhood.
(No matter your age.)
Torch of Huron Valley is a grassroots, intergenerational community for women and girls built around connection, shared wisdom, access, and the belief that we can accomplish more together.
Torch grew from a simple observation after 20+ years of helping local organizations flourish: Huron Valley is full of remarkable women, but we don't always know one another. Our knowledge, experiences, resources, and connections often stay within our own generations and circles. Torch is about changing that.
Inspired by the strength of matriarchal communities, we believe wisdom doesn't belong to one age or stage of life. Everyone has something to learn, something to share, and something worth carrying forward.
OUR MISSIONTorch connects women and girls across generations with the people, knowledge, opportunities, and community they need to navigate life and strengthen Huron Valley.
We’ll bring that mission to life through casual gatherings, useful workshops and classes, school partnerships, shared expertise, and meaningful connections between generations. Torch will be accessible, with no membership fees to start, and will work alongside the organizations already doing great work in our community rather than competing with them.
With age comes wisdom, sometimes
Big decisions can feel a lot less overwhelming when you can talk to someone who's already made them. Torch connects women navigating business decisions, finances, career changes, entrepreneurship, and other big leaps with women willing to share what they've learned along the way. It's not about having all the answers or telling someone what to do. It's about access to real experience, honest conversations, useful connections, and the confidence that can come from knowing you don't have to figure everything out alone.
Not your mom’s career fair
Traditional career fairs can introduce students to jobs, but they don't always show the full range of paths available to them or the winding roads people take to get there. We want girls and young women to meet women with real stories across trades, professions, entrepreneurship, creative work, public service, STEM, and paths they may not even know exist yet. Not just, "Here's what I do," but "Here's how I got here, what I learned along the way, and what I wish I'd known at your age." Because sometimes seeing what's possible starts with meeting someone who's already been there.
